Danko Jones: We Sweat Blood

April 25, 2005

Granted, I’ve been on a Danko-Kick lately, but the new album was released a few days ago, and showed up on iTMS. While the band doesn’t fall under the “metal” or “hardcore” or “punk” categories (or any of the adjective-laden sub-categories) that normally garner our attention… “We Sweat Blood” embodies nothing except pure rock fury.
The [...]

Devildriver Tracks Online

April 24, 2005

Cruise over to the Roadrunner site where they’re hard-selling two new tracks from Devildriver. “Hold Back the Day” is available for download, but you’ll have to stream [... buffering...] “End of the Line”. The shit’s pretty hard, and the new album should be out in late June.

Danko Jones Cancelled

April 24, 2005

Danko Jones [band site, my itch] have cancelled their upcoming 5/22/05 show at Iota in Arlington. That blows, but the guys still rock. *shrug* Maybe next time.

My review methodology

April 20, 2005

1-4: Varying degrees of pain. 1 is “Alvin and the Chipmunks cover Stryper”. 4 is… a well produced version of the aforementioned. The purpose of 1-4 is also to incite various degrees of mocking, for example, “Every record produced by Morbid Angel is a 2, tops.” Now, I’ll get post from room-temperature IQ little-brains doing [...]

bloodsimple: A Cruel World

April 19, 2005

Band website: www.bloodsimpleband.com
Parts of this album are simply crushing. If you’ve ever heard Vision of Disorder (two members of VOD are in the band), you’ll appreciate some semblance of that sound mixed in with ample portions old Pantera. Overall, it’s not “fuck yeah!” fast, double-kick driven metal… but it’s got an abundance of catchy, bendy [...]

April 19, 2005

Devildriver will play main support for Machine Head (mp3) at the Recher Theater (site) in Towson, MD on May 18th. Price: $15; It Dies Today (meh) also support.
For metal fans in my old stompin’ grounds: The tour stops at Masquerade in Ybor on May 24th.
For the record: Doug gave Machine Head a 5-of-10 back in [...]

KMFDM: Attak

April 19, 2005

KMFDM is back, and they’re better than ever pretty much the same old KMFDM. (Apparently, “Attak” was released in 2002. Hrm… must have missed that non-blip on the radar. Re-released in 2005, probably for people like me.) “Attak” is a bit better than “Chaos”, but nowhere near “Nihil”. They’re holding dear to a formula that [...]
